BALLOON LAUNCH

Members of the Girls Brigade from across the district met in Bitterne to celebrate the launch of the 120th year of Girls Brigade. The day started off with a few slight problems like a fire in the supermarket below the church but after a quick relocation we were able to continue with the planned events. The girls arrived and had time to move between craft stations; making sheep, treasure boxes, peg people, face painting and much more.
Soon it was time for the big event the balloon launch and the prepared balloons were distributed and we all headed out onto the patio. Counting down... 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0... and off the balloons went travelling to who knows where in the hope of making it the furthest and them being sent back to us. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens next.
A short service was then held in the church for parents and girls and we even had a visit from the puppet theatre group which was enjoyed by all. With the afternoon drawing to a close the girls collected up their crafts to take home and were given the first in what will hopefully be a series of badges to mark the events taking place in 2013.

On Saturday 6th July we joined with other companies in the district to present this musical.
It was a great success and enjoyed by both cast and audience.
SUMMER CAMP
On July 26th we again joined girls from our district and 34 girls in total set off for Sayer's Croft Activity Centre. We enjoyed making new friends and took part in many fun and challenging activities. Some of the favourites were climbing, abseiling. ropes course, ballista(where we built catapults to fire wet sponges at the opposite team,archery, swimming, and raft building. One of the great favourites was the welly walk through the stream when we got very wet as the water came over the top of our wellies.
On the final day which was Sunday we were joined by Nikki Hargreaves from GBCO who came to lead our worship. Here we are in our GB tops, many of us wearing our special 2013 pink t-shirts.We are outside one of the huts we stayed in. After the final lovely meal it was time to say goodbye and head off home with lots of happy memories and muddy clothes! Sorry Mums!

The Fairy Day Camp
Took place in November. It was a great success with the younger girls. They came dressed as fairies. There were lots of fairy crafts to make and a party lunch. Then it was time for a rest in their sleeping bags while listening to fairy stories. The day finished with fairy games before it was time to gather up all the things they had made and off home.
