N:SPIRE IS A MORE CHALLENGING PROGRAMME FOR THE OLDER GIRLS. THE PROGRAMME IS PRESENTED AS A SERIES OF CHALLENGES WITH IDEAS OF HOW THESE COULD BE FULFILLED, BUT THERE IS PLENTY OF SCOPE FOR THE GIRLS TO PLAN AND EXECUTE IT IN THEIR OWN WAY.
Some of our successful badges have been when the girls organised the Christmas party for the younger girls, cooked a meal for a leader who was leaving and decorated a Christmas tree for the Christmas tree festival. The girls have also run some worship sessions for the younger members and enjoyed looking into how women are represented in the media.
MEET YOUR LEADER
Name: Margaret
How long have you been in Girls Brigade? I joined this company as Explorer leader in 1987
and became captain in 1990. I was also a member for 13 years as a girl in a company in London.
What is your favourite part of Girls Brigade? Watching the girls grow and develop.
What has been your favourite Girls Brigade badge and why? Community: the 1st badge we did from the new programme. It involved eating toast every week. The girls loved it and it was a great chance to chat and get to know them better.
Favourite food? I'm rather partial to coffee ice-cream and Cadburys chocolate.
What do you do in your spare time? I love to sing I am a member of a choir. I sew and knit and I love being a Granny.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself: I represented the Girls' Brigade on Vauxhall bridge for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee river pageant. It was very wet and cold but we had a great view. (see photo)
